Our Farm to Care Food Program
Each of Living Well Group’s (LWG) locations, Heaton Woods Residence and Ethan Allen Residence, offers unique programming and on-and off-site engagement opportunities for our residents as appropriate in today’s pandemic world. This includes expressive arts therapy, music therapy, geriatric massage therapy, yoga/movement therapy, on-site gardening, and our Farm to Care food program.
LWG’s Farm to Care food program, which has been recognized by the Vermont Health Care Association through their annual Culinary Award, prioritizes local-purchasing and promotes on-site gardening to provide residents with delicious, nutritious, and locally sourced meals. Each campus has raised beds that are used to plant vegetables, fruits, and herbs for use in our meals. Each garden is maintained by our staff and residents, which not only provides residents with an opportunity to engage in deeply meaningful horticulture therapy, but also gives them ownership over the food that they eat. Fostering a sense of ownership helps to nurture the home-like environment that we value so much at LWG. Chefs at each of our residences offer healthy, delicious options based on whole foods that include items from our on-site resident-and-volunteer-tended vegetable gardens as well as locally sourced fruits, vegetables, and proteins whenever we can.
