Volunteer Spotlight: Betsy Wyeth

Betsy, outside the residence, before embarking on a weekly drive.

Meet Betsy Wyeth, a native of Burlington’s New North End, who has been volunteering with Living Well Group since January 2018.

Betsy visits Ethan Allen Residence every week, where she brings several residents on a ride out of the residence. They switch up their route and drive to many different locations, including the Lake Champlain islands, the bustling streets of downtown Burlington, and the meadows and fields of Chittenden County.

The drives that Betsy provides for residents are especially important for our residents living with Dementia. Sometimes dementia symptoms include the need to be “on the move” and feeling restless. When these residents are in the car, they are calm and at ease.

Betsy is currently retired and does some additional volunteering with Animal Rescue groups in the area. When asked about her favorite part of driving the residents, Betsy says, “I’ve met so many nice people. I love driving around with the residents and getting to explore with them. It’s great when they recognize places we’re driving by and tell me the story of what those places means to them.”

Thank you, Betsy! We are so grateful for all you do.
